Floating

••• Inspired by Claude Monet's Waterlilies (1897/8) •••

Two flowers we
fresh free
opened wide
Side by side
floating
close yet far
Two beacons of color
floral suns
on murky space

Ever waiting we
to touch
to blend
To become as one
petal against soft petal
tendrils entwined below the surface
But nary a ripple
to join us
for once

Hoping blossoms we
fearing to wilt
without a caress
Mismatched undercurrents
draw me close
push you away
Painfully close
floating in dreams
awash in reality
