Solitary

Even Martha Stewart can’t help
lime green cinderblock
unadorned, window
less, six feet
by eight, no pillow
covers or bed skirt, no glue
gun or fresh herbs, no
big house, no
dogs in the yard.
thirty days

time is not a good thing
behind closed
doors, striped
shadows locked on cement
floors, with meals
served severely
without a knife
to slice; the silence
weighs heavy, stifling.
